Sorry, new to this forum. I hope this is the right one.
My search engine in Safari keeps changing to Bing when I have Google selected in my browser. How can I stop this from happening?

Nice going.:Cool: Thanks for posting the result. It might help others.

@Harryb2448 if we get a few more folks independently solving their own problems what are we going to do for fun? I know . . . A few more naps perhaps?

There will ALWAYS be the poster who says, "I tried doing something and it didn't work. Help!"

We can spend days and days asking questions and getting one fact at a time!

EDITed for clarity.

Search your computer for those files. You can do that using the search box in the top right hand corner of any Finder window.

Thanks Rod S, and the secret for deletion I find is to use Find Any File or even Devon's EasyFind as Spotlight (aka: Stoplight as I call it ) is usually useless for finding the files and folders. And especially if they are somewhere that Stoplight doesn't normally allow a user to search.

I don't have genieo anymore. I used to... but I must have deleted it,as doing a search on genieo turns up nothing.

What I DO HAVE is search.strtpoint.com/ which redirects all my searches regardless of browser, to BING.

This happened a week or so ago after I got tricked into downloading a fake "Flash Update required"

What should I do to get rid of it? Are those mac anti-virus software safe or necessary?
Do I need to do a bunch of complicated stuff like go into my terminal?

Hello - visit the Safe Mac website HERE, and read about Adware - download the AdwareMedic app which likely will help. BUT, do not install any AV programs or MacKeeper on your computer. Good luck and let us know the results. Dave :)

Thanks, RadDave. I used the adware medic and it found some hidden genieo files and removed them.
However, Web Search still shows up now instead of google.

Do you know why that is happening and how to change it back? Is that the sign that something else more mischievous is happening on my computer?

When you get everything hunky dory, avoad downloading anything from Softonic and CNET as they have been found to be adding malware to downloads. Avast! AV is guilty of doing the same!

Try Safari - Preferences - Extensions

Delete them all - test - add back the ones you want.

Wouldn't that be the nice handy day when browser snoopware and crapware just installed a nice browser extension. Yeah, right!! ;D :Smirk:
