• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Anyone have a rec for a program that converts MPG files to MOV files? I have a bunch to use in a film and I can't preview them well in MPG form.

I can give it a try but I will be honest, I have never converted file formats using a Mac. I do almost all my video work on a Windows editor. I use Premiere Pro and it will import and work with mpg files and just about anything else very well.

Plus mpg is usually very universal so most anything will play is provided the player has the right codex. VLC media player is excellent.

As for a converter, they offer this in the app store: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/free-video-converter/id543848771?mt=12

I have never used it but it is free. Sorry I am not much help but maybe someone else has an awesome idea.

convert mpg to mov

There are many online apps can convert MPG to MOV, such as zamzar, Acethinker Video Converter, mediaconverter, etc. They are totally free, compatible with both Mac and Windows.
