Scanner - MacBook Problem

So I have an HP scanner (Scanjet G4010) and until I updated to Mavericks, it worked fine. But since then, when I try to save a scanned image, it either flashes an error message or it saves an all-black picture. Please help, I tried to update the software, but it says the software update program doesn't currently work. I tried re-installing it, but it's the same. I tried emailing HP, but they apparently don't have an email. I don't know what else to do. Help!

I've downloaded that update and still have the same problem as the OP. I now use Image Capture for scanning.

If you want more control use this: VueScan Scanner Software for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux
Works with most any scanner. Make sure to get the right one, 32bit or 64 bit according to your drivers.
My HP G3110 only has drivers in 32 bit.
