My status bar no longer allows me to move icons. I have deleted Kensington trackerball from my Macbook Pro but it's icon cannot be removed from the status bar although it is grayed out.

Have you tried holding the <command> key while dragging the icon off the bar?

I have tried but the pointer does not hold the icon and does not move it.

Have you tried rebooting the computer? This may be necessary for the "deletion changes" to take effect.

Yes, a couple of times. No change.

Ok…good deal.:)

In post #1 you mentioned that you "deleted Kensington trackerball from my Macbook Pro".

Did you simply drag the app to the trash? Did you empty the trash can?

If this was the process…maybe some remnant of the trackball app remains somewhere on the hard drive. If there's an uninstaller for the trackball app…that may be a more complete way of removing things.

Thanks for trying to help.
I did delete the trackball in exactly the way you described as it did not have an uninstaller. I have deleted the trash but this had no effect. I have searched with finder for any files with all the names related to trackball I can think of but the searches find nothing.
I wonder if OX has a record of the status bar in the system?

Ok…thanks for the info again.

One other thing I can think of is…go to "System Preferences" (Apple Menu). And look thru some of the "Preferences" to see if there is any remnant of the trackball app there. Specifically look at:

- Trackpad
- Mouse
- Users & Groups
- etc.

Specifically in "Users & Groups"…(making sure you have clicked on the proper account in the left column…you may only have one account setup there & it may be already selected):

- Click on the "Login Items" tab.
- Look in the window if anything is there regarding the trackpad.
- If there is…delete it.

Sorry, still no luck. I can't find any reference to trackball in any system preferences.
It looks as if I am just going to have to live with the status bas as it is, at least until Yosemite is in full operation.
Thanks for your time.

One more thought…and this may be a result of some terminology confusion.

When you say "status bar"…are you talking the bar in the upper right area of the display window…or are you talking the "Dock" which is at the bottom of the desktop window (at least this is where most folks have their "Dock" located).

Just want to be sure we are talking about the same area.

It is the status bar at the top of the screen.

Ok…just wanted to be sure we weren't talking about the "Dock".

Hang in there…maybe someone else reading this thread has an idea. I'm sure there's a solution!:)

I'll keep thinking about it as well (I'm multi-tasking at the moment).:):)

p.s. By the way. Have you visited the Kensington website? Maybe they have a FAQ or Q&A area.:)

I have emailed the manufacturer. I will let you know if they have any information.

Try this:
Go to /hardrive/Library/Extensions
See if there are any Kensington kexts there. If so, move them to the desktop. You will have to authenticate, enter your log in password.
Restart. Menu item gone?

I'm going to have to send some sugar-safe cookies your way if this solves things!;)

I have looked in the Extensions folder. There are 12 kexts there but none of them seem to relate to Kensington or to Trackball. I dont recognise any of the file names but I am not very knowledgeable about system files so I did not move any of them.

Ok, look in drive/System/Library/Extensions
If it's not in there look in drive/library/launchdaemons.

I've tried all your very welcome suggestions but still can't find any appropriate files to delete.
Sorry this may lead to a lack of 'sugar-safe cookies' in your store cupboard! but thanks anyway.

Hmm... try looking in your user folder/Library/LaunchAgents
Also, what are the filenames in /Library/Extensions and /System/Library/Extensions? It may not say Kensington.

Edit: look in /Applications/Utilities and see if there is an uninstaller. From the searches I've done there should be.
