Hi
My camera on my MacBook 2009 turns on by itself.
I have closed all programs. I have restarted.
I have start and stop Photo Booth and FaceTime.
Running OSX 10.9.4
The problem is still there.
How do I find out which program starts the camera?

Sorry for my english.

First, before doing any further trouble shooting, try re-setting the SMC on your MacBook Pro. Follow these Apple instructions from their KB: LINK

If that doesn't work, the next time the camera turns on open your Activity Monitor and see if you can determine which program or process is turning the camera on. Look for things such as "FaceTime" or "Skype", etc.

Thank you.

I have prøveet SMC reset. Shut down MacSave from, battery, wait 20 sec. with power button pressed. Battery MacSave up again and start up.
The green LED on the camera turns the moment I turn on the machine.
So it may well not be a program when the turns on before osX started?
Is it a hardware failure?

The camera works when the machine is booted, for example. in FaceTime.

It might be hardware failure but it may also be that some process is turning your camera on as soon as the machine starts up. Start your MacBook in safe boot mode to see if camera is turning on. To start in safe boot mode, hold down your shift key while restarting the computer. Let us know.

Hi
The green LED turned off during the save mode boot.
After normal boot, everything is ok.
Camera turns on when I start FaceTime, and turns off when I close FaceTime again.

Many thanks for your help.

The joy was short. Now it's on again.
It has also provided a new problem: The changes between the application which is opened. When you see a page in Safari, it suddenly changes, for example. Finder.
:-(

I have ckecket the whole computer with AVG. No problem.

Can you explain this a bit? I'm not sure what you mean.

Have you by chance installed Flash recently? If so go to System Preferences and check the Flash pane. One of the tabs has a setting for controlling access to the camera. Can't tell you for sure which one. I don't have it re-installed on the OS X Yosemite Beta yet.

Sorry for my bad English.

I uninstalled Flash yesterday, because I read it could create problems.
I think I installed an update of Flash last week.

The new problem is:
When using an application example. Safari or Mail, the computer switches itself to another program, for example. Finder or another application that is open. Just like if you press command + tab.
I had the same problem last year and it was Google Drive that was the problem.
Now I closed Google Drive and it seems that the problem is gone.

Can it be Google Drive is teasing with the camera?

Is OS X Yosemite good?
Can it run on my old MacBook primo 2009 (2GHz Core2Duo, 5Gbyre RAM)?

I'm not sure about Google Drive causing the problem. It could be but I haven't run it yet.

So far I like Yosemite. There are some features I haven't really been able to test because they rely on an iPad or iPhone running IOS 8. I'm not in that beta. So far Yosemite has been pretty good. Looks like I have a few minor things to update. The Bluetooth headset I am using isn't recognized otherwise all is well.

What OS are you running on the MacBook? If it is running Mavericks then Yosemite should run as well. My MacBook Pro is a Core2Duo with 8 GB ram but it should run with 4 GB.It needs to be running on a Mac that supports 64 bit processing.

I run Mavericks. 10.9.4
It run ok.
I dream of a new or newer MacBook Pro. However, they are expensive, especially in Denmark.

The problem with the computer itself switches between programs is gone. :)

But the camera is still on all the time. :-(

Try creating a test account (give it admin privileges) and then log on to the test account to see if the camera is turning on. Let us know.

The same.
The green LED is on all time. If I turn the MacBook off, it turn off. When I press the power button to turn the MacBook on, the LED turns on the same second the power button is pressed.
Maybe it's a short circuit.

OK. We've just about eliminated everything. The only thing that worked for a little while was using safe boot mode, but that also was short lived. I suspect bad hardware. It's probably something that you'll need to have Apple repair. If you don't want to spend any money to have Apple repair it, you'll just have to live with the camera being on. Put a piece of black tape or something to block the camera so you can maintain your privacy.

have cleaned the small print behind the camera.
It looked as if it had been a bit humid.
Now it works as it should.

Thanks for posting back the fix. Whatever that was behind the camera was causing it to turn on. I have never heard of that before but I'm happy to hear that you repaired it yourself.

I make some soldering on some components. That take away humidity.
And I cleaned with contact cleaner.
