Ive been trying to move files from one folder to another, and when I do, they duplicate themselves. I want to keep them in the new folder and delete the original files from that folder to clean up my mac and make it easier to search through. When I move them and delete the originally placed files the recently moved copies delete to. How do I delete the original but keep the copies in the new folder? I dont remember ever having this problem before so I dont know how to fix it. Thanks in advance

That's occurring because instead of moving or copying the files, you're creating aliases instead. If you delete the original file, the alias will likewise be deleted.

If you want to copy a file from one folder to another, highlight the file, hold down your option key, and drag the file to the new location. That will make a copy and you can delete the original.

How recently was this implemented? I believe that in SL, which I still run, the alias will remain, but be "broken".

Copy and then deleting the original is moving the files. If the locations are folders on the same drive, there is no need to copy, just drag from one window to another and they will be in the new location, gone from the former location.
