Unable to check/select songs on iPod via iTunes

I have the iPod Touch plugged into my Macbook Air. In iTunes, the checkmark box in front of each song is grayed out and I can't add a check to the songs.

Thanks for any help.

That's correct and normal behaviour. Perhaps you should explain what it is specifically that you want to do?
