Hi All - I am having an issue that just recently started happening. I am running a MacBook pro with retina laptop with Mavericks and Windows 7. If I am booted on the mac side - if I go to retrieve files from my PC side desktop via bootcamp I get a spinning beach ball any my computer crashes. I used to be able to do this no problem. Does anybody have any suggestions for a remedy? I can always reinstall bootcamp and windows 7 but I REALLY don't want to do this unless absolutely necessary.

Thank you!

Do you mean you attempt to access Windows files whilst booted into OS X? BootCamp does not work that way, you have to shut down and reboot into the Windows partition. Copy these files to a thumb drive, close Windows, boot into OS X and access that way. Maybe Paralllels would be better suited for your needs.

Hi Harry -
Thanks for responding - I am talking about moving files from my PC side partition (Bootcamp) over to my Mac side - this absolutely can be done; I've been doing it for quite some time - but let me clarify; I am not suggesting I am trying to OPEN windows files. I have photoshop and illustrator files (cross platform) which I drag across sometimes as part of my workflow process. I understand native windows application files won't work this way. This issue is in the TRANSFERRING of the files - this is when my machine gives me the spinning beach ball. As I have done this numerous times and this 'crashing' is a recent occurrence, I am trying to figure out how to remedy it without doing a full reinstall of windows 7 and bootcamp.

Hope this clarifies a bit better....

What you're trying to do can certainly be done as I have done it many times myself when I had Windows 7 installed via Boot Camp. The crashes and spinning rainbow may be indicative of hard drive problems. You might want to boot to your recovery partition, open utilities, Disk Utility, and verify the hard drive. Let us know....
