Can you give us a little bit more information about your hardware. If I am right you don't need a 3.5 mm to USB cable. It's more likely that you need either a 3.5 mm to RCA cable or a 3.5 to toss link cable if your receiver has optical inputs.

2. What receiver (make and model) ?
Well, first forget about a USB cable unless you have a specific reason for trying that connection - what I do w/ my iPod music is to simply use a mini-stereo plug to R/L RCA adapter cable as shown below. Your receiver has AUX audio inputs on the front and an AUX control switch (see arrows on the pic of your unit). Dave

@OP if you don't like having the wire sticking out of the front of the receiver there is probably a set on the rear that will work as well. Any of the input connections should work though I wouldn't use the Phono connections for it. Switch the selector on the front to whatever connection you use (vcr for example)
