I am trying to install the GIMP Animation Package for on GIMP, but all my attempts have been unsuccessful.

So far, the only real copy of the GAP that I have found was on MacPorts, labeled as "gimp-gap." I installed that, but it had no effect on my GIMP.

I am using GIMP 2.8.10 downloaded from gimp.org as both "gimp" and "gimp-app" from MacPorts couldn't even launch.

Does anyone know why my GAP isn't plugging into my GIMP or where I can download one that will? I am just trying to do simple video -> gif + some editing that I am familiar with on GIMP.

GAP requires X11 to function. Therefore you need a version of Gimp for X11.
Do you have X11 installed? XQuartz

Yup, right where it says "Quick Download".
Then you can install Gimp and GAP from MacPorts (or Fink).

No, that version is a stand alone app. You need the one from MacPorts.

Not sure. Right off the top of my head I would say gimp.
Gimp-app sounds like an app that lives in /Applications instead of /opt/bin or wherever MacPorts keeps binaries now.
