Have imported about 8Gig of MP3 music from a friend's PC - I know... but someone has to have one!!! - and although I have placed them in the iTunes Music library folder where all the CDs I have ripped reside, the MP3s have not become part of my library...

found an Import option... didn't seem to be able to do more than import one track at a time

how can I tell iTunes to recognise the new music?

try highlighting them and doubling clicking so they try to open and play.

They should appear in the library after that

Try putting all your new mp3s into one folder. Then in iTunes, import that one folder. It should pick up all your songs, and put them into your library.
