Help...images appear to be in iPhoto

But when you click on the image you get a big explanation mark and they are not there...where can they be?

This is on a what running which operating system in in iPhoto or another application and on the internal/external drive?

Did you import the photos from an external device; ie external hard drive or USB stick/pen drive? If so did you have the "Copy items to iPhoto Library" option ticked in iPhoto Preferences>Advanced? If not, then you need to have that external device connected(and the photos still on the drive) to view them.
