DVD player not playing DVD movies

Buy a can of compressed air at any store which sells it. Blow a few short blasts into the drive in order to clean it. If that doesn't work so you can play DVDs once again, then it's likely you will need a new drive. Probably best to buy an external drive as that will be less expensive.

Well, it's not uncommon for these optical drives to malfunction on one disc standard and still work w/ the others (see quote below from HERE) - multiple lasers or a laser that can alter the wavelength produced are required in these optical devices - if the compressed air suggestion does not work, then an external drive would be an inexpensive option. But if you are a DIY person, then check IFIXIT to see if a guide exists for your computer/drive - I'm sure that a google search on that model number will bring up some inexpensive offerings - good luck! Initially, CD lasers with a wavelength of 780 nm were used, being within infrared range. For DVDs, the wavelength was reduced to 650 nm (red color), and the wavelength for Blu-ray Disc was reduced to 405 nm (violet color).
