is iphoto and imovie free for a mid 2012 MBP

hi i bought a mid 2012 MBP from my friend and reset MBP to factory settings using internet recovery. now its is running OS X10.9.4. when i went to download the iphoto from app store it asking me to pay, which my friend got for free earlier. please help
