iPhoto / Photoshop / RAW questions

Greetings,

I feel like a dummy for not being able to figure this out.

I'm having an issue with either: photoshop, iphoto, or who knows what.

I'm shooting photos on my Nikon D7100 in RAW.
When I import them into iPhoto they come in as RAW (see attached image)
If I drag the image to my desktop, it turns it into a jpg for some reason (see attached image)
If I drag the straight to photoshop, it opens as a jpg.

How do I get this to open in RAW?

Any help would be -greatly- appreciated.

dang, still jpg. what the heck...

Do you have any of the applications set for photos to default to jpg when opened or imported?

Thanks for the reply! I don't believe i have the photos set to default to anything. Do you know how I would check?
