How do I increase the allocated application memory for FCPX in Mavericks?

There is no allotment that I've ever heard of. Mavericks should give it as much as is available, as needed. Are you having a specific problem? How much RAM do you have installed?

Memory Allocation

When exporting (sharing) an H.264 file in FCPX i get an error message that there is not enough application memory and I should try closing other apps. I have 32GB of memory installed and no other apps are running

As life says Mavericks will handle it and no allocation available. Adequate memory is vital.

In my Mac Pro days using Final Cut, always ran at least 16GB.

You're not using a 32-bit machine are you? If so, FCP is limited to just 2.5GB of memory (see here).

None ... Just FCPX

Hmmmmm. Which exact Mac do you have? Open up About This Mac and double-check how much RAM it is reporting. Also download Rember and test your RAM thoroughly to see if something wonky is going on.

Oh yes, how much hard drive space is used/free? Try using Onyx to clean out your user and system caches. Maybe there's a caching issue here.

That 20% is an absolute minimum. Many recommend at least 25%.

Applications aren't normally limited unless there's an application specific setting. Take Safari as an example - it continues to suck up memory for as long as possible and nothing holds it back.

It looks like FCP might have memory settings: Final Cut Pro > System Settings > Memory & Cache.

If you have just barely more than 20% free space, it is extremely likely your free space is highly fragmented. Would suggest you download the iDefrag trial and check out the fragmentation of the drive.

Just what I was about to suggest. People who work with very large files (i.e. Final Cut Pro users!) are highly prone to seeing heavy fragmentation that has a definite impact on file access and productivity.

Did you forget something, or is that how it is? O:)

Eh? I didn't forget anything. You mean a download link? I figured the OP was sharp enough to search for it.

No, as Van deduced, I meant the "MISSING" letter.

Plus I couldn't resist the comment about forgetting in this context.
