I have a (pretty much) dead iMac that does not leave the boot screen. I have tried every which way to repair the HD but nothing is working. Since I cannot afford a new HD right now, I was wondering if there was a way to hook my macbook up to it via DVI and use it as an external monitor, event though I cannot get past the boot screen. (Note that I can boot up in other mac modes like recovery and terminal)

You would be surprised how inexpensively you can get a used HD…via various sources.

FYI…a "pretty much dead" iMac is one that has a dead logic board.

You would be equally surprised how inexpensively used external monitors can be as well.:) I just got one recently for free!:)
