If you uncheck "Show video within the main window" you should be able to have more than one video playing.
More than one 'instance'? I doubt it.

Just tried it. Nope. Opening a video while another is playing closes the first one.
Odd. With Quicktime and Quicktime Player 7 you can open and play more than one at a time.

Edit: There is a work-around: https://wiki.videolan.org/How_to_play_multiple_instances_of_VLC/

thanks for advice, for the quicktime, l had noticed an individual quicktimes can be opened but how do we add a playlist for each. eg each open quicktime, having its own playlist.

You can have to different instances of VLC going simultaneously. It's a bit of a kludge to make it work I think the playlist for each version is separate but I am not sure. The procedure below works for some programs but not others.

1. Find VLC on your Mac and select it.
2. Press Command and D simultaneously to duplicate the program. The Finder adds the word "copy" to the title but you should be able to rename it.
3. You can open both programs and load different videos in each window.

This process ale works with some other programs (MPEG Streamclip) but not all of them. If you have VLC inside a fielder of its own things also work if you duplicate the entire folder.
