Try another SD card. Not all SD cards are equal in quality. My 2013 27" iMac will recognize good quality SD cards and sometimes poor quality ones. However, I've found that the poorer quality cards (cheap ones) don't last long. I've had to throw away several just lately.

Me too. But I bought some no name 16 GB cards for like $6.00 each and they were junk. Lasted about two weeks before I had to throw them away. The old adage applies here: You get what you pay for! ;P

SD Card issues

Thanks to everyone who responded. Good advice all around. I tried restarting and inserting the card upon hearing the familiar "ding" and when it finished booting iPhoto opened immediately and there it was. It's a pretty nice card with minimal usage so think it must have been or might still be a mood swing with my MacBook. We'll see.

Things I found that deal with SD card slots:
1. ) Open iPhoto then the card will be recognized especially if a camera formatted the card.
2.) It may require cleaning the slot (can of air) or vacuum.
3.) You might have to wiggle the card gently (bad contacts) or push in at a very slight angle.
4.) Older models will not read high capacity or SDXC.
5.) Stay away from cheap no name brands even if they work life expectancy is low.
