If you are running Lion 10.7 and newer, then boot into the recovery partition, by holding down both ⌘ & R keys or ⌥Option and select the Recovery, and goto top Menu Bar select Utilities>Terminal.
Once Terminal is Open type
and hit Return. Then in the windows that pop up, go ahead and reset your password, then restart your Mac.
