I have an IMAC OX S, which has been upgraded to an 10.9.3. I was told Parallel 9 for Windows would work on my computer, but first I had to buy a Windows operating system and install it. Can anyone advice if 7 or 8 is better and can I just buy the one for $70 rather than the one for $240 or so? The main reason I would be using Parallel is for playing games that work in Windows, but not on my MAC - that

First and foremost, you need a copy of Windows (regardless of what approach you take). To know whether to go with Windows 7 or 8, you should look at the requirements of the games you want to run and determine what fits the best.

You can likely go with Windows 8. You likely don't need the Pro version just for playing games..

Now, as far as running games go, while Parallels and other virutalization software are getting better at running games, you are not going get the same kind of performance as you would if you ran Windows natively on the Mac..

So use Boot Camp and installed Windows natively and then use that to play games..

And whatever version you buy, make sure it is 64bit. That will access all the memory whereas 32bit can only see about 3-4GB maximum.

Personally prefer Windows 7 64bit Professional.

Yes, you can get what is called the "System Builder" version of Windows.
