Good luck with them accepting your photo. I took my own passport photo and it wasn't to their exact, precise dimension and was denied. sorry for the derail / rant.

As dotdotdot said, the printed image(s) must adhere to a rather strict set of rules, specifying background, dimensions, eye level, overall head size, etc, etc. I doubt the iPhoto editing capabilities will give you sufficient flexibility to do that.

For what it worth, I have done our passport photos a couple of times, without any problem, however I edit main image in Photoshop, replacing background with [UK passport] required 10% grey, then use InDesign to put a simple layout ( 2 across; 3 down) and print on 6x4 240gsm high quality photo paper.

Frankly, the whole process is beyond ridiculous: a digital image is reduced to postal stamp size and converted to analogue format, then posted to Passport Office where it is scanned on eye-wateringly expensive scanner, so back to digital format, recorded on to a chip, and printed on the face page of your passport, with resolution that will make my £100 colour laser printer chuckle and point finger ... The photo, by the way, has lost perhaps 30% of facial details in the process :\

Get a commercial photographer who specialises in passport snaps, or the local agent to do it. Here Down Under our local Post offices are agents, take your pic and forward electronically to the Passports Office.

No problem with passport photos in our Southern border states. No passports needed - just a river raft or rubber boat to get you across the Rio Grande! :p

No imagination you Texans. Even the 1837 Texas bank notes not worth what they used to be!

how do i print a passport photo using iphoto

Unless you have a photo printer, not to be confused with a average printer. They will not take it even if the measurements are perfect..

They also will not take them if you look happy, smile, brushed your hair or wore nice cloths.. But if you look like you been on a 7 day drunk spree and haven't had a bath the whole time.. They will take that..

Best advice, go to Walgreens, CVS Pharmacy or similar places, pay like 5 bucks and get them within a hour. Since the pharmacy people have no photography skills what so ever, they will be accepted without a problem..

Exodist speaks the truth! I'm scared of my own passport photo -- even **I** think I look like a terrorist!

I took my own passport photos which were accepted and even used by the DVLA for my drivers license. Camera on tripod, back to a plain wall, printed on a pretty standard Epson colour stylus printer and trimmed to size. No problems.
