I have a 27" iMac Mid 2011, 3.4Ghz Core i7.

What is the maximum RAM for this. I believe Apple recommends 16Gb (4x4GB), but I have seen websites stating and selling 32GB, is this correct/compatible (4x8GB).

Is this true, can anyone confirm this from experience please?

From Mactracker:

Maximum Memory 32 GB (Actual) 16 GB (Apple)
Memory Slots 4 - 204-pin PC3-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM

Have fun and buy your memory from either Mac Sales or Crucial.

20GB will be just fine. It will handle everything including Photoshop etc with ease.
