Is there a way to upgrade graphics card of macbook pro late 2011 or use an external graphics card. It has inbuilt intel HD 3000 graphics card.

Isn't there also a dedicated graphic card? I thought it was standard on MBPro. My much older one (mid-2010) certainly has a secondary (or is it primary? ;) ) card.

Depends on the specific model. My mid-2012 model for instance does not have the dedicated card.

atool2007, the parts are soldered in. What ports do you have available on your Mac? It's possible to run a GPU over thunderbolt.

It's, if I remember correctly, only the 15/17" models that had/have them.

That's what I was going to mention…that the 13" MBP's only had/have the Intel graphics…and the 15"/17" MBP's had dual graphics hardware. And now with the most current models…only the higher end 15" MBP has dual graphics hardware.

Thanks. Do you have more info on how to run an external GPU over thunderbolt?

This isn't for the Mac but this might be an interesting read. This could be interesting as well.
