the trackpad cursor on my macbook pro i7 has become very jumpy and has a mind of its own! i've reset the SMC, cleaned the trackpad but to no avail. I've been told that a faulty battery can be overheating and causing this, but it also happens when I switch on a 'cold' machine that has been powered down overnight.
Any suggestions? Thanks

A faulty battery in that it has swollen - which is a permanent condition when it occurs - the swelling does not go down just because it is cold. To test, remove the battery.
