My iMac has been really slow after installing Mavericks - I didn't think about checking what RAM was needed and I can see that the mac needs almost 4GB to run successfully. I've got 4GB installed - the maximum according to apple, but I've heard you can instal more. Has anyone done this? Also does anyone know where I can get 4GB of ram for just one slot here in the UK? Thanks

According to Mactracker, your machine can take 6 GB of memory. Which means 1 x 4 GB module + 1 x 2 GB module = 6 GB. You might check with Amazon UK and Crucial UK to see if they have what you need.

Your machine specs call for:

Maximum Memory 6.0 GB (Actual) 4.0 GB (Apple)
Memory Slots 2 - 200-pin PC2-6400 (800MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM
