Hello,
My MacBook Air running 10.9.3 has decided to stop loading the Internet pages for me.

It's not loading in Chrome nor Safari. Have read various forums saying to clear browser cache and history etc however this does not. Running in incognito also does not help.

Chrome says no data received while Safari stays blank. I am connected to the Internet as other apps such as Skype work. Also funnily enough Facebook.com is the only website that does load.

Does anyone out there know how this can be solved?

Posted from smart phone.
Apologies in advance if posted in wrong area of the forum - forum newbie here.

G'ay and welcome to the forums.

That is very bad news ~ about Facebook!

Have you Repaired Permissions from within Disk Utility? How full is the hard drive? Do you use maintenance utilities at all - Onyx recommended here? Any AV software or cleaners like the dreaded MacKeeper etc running?

Hi Harry,

Thank you for your response.

I have started repairing permissions now.
Hard drive has 29gb free from a total of 120gb.
I don't use maintenance utilities. What are they, their purpose and benefits?
In regards to anti virus I have Sophos and Avast installed. Are they reliable?

Kind Regards,

Most of us here do not use AV software at all as they are resource hogs. If coming from Windows you are paranoid about this, and it would appear so with two applications, download and run ClamXAV.

Most recommended maintenance program is Onyx which cleans caches, runs Unix maintenance chors etc. Have a look at these links:-

http://www.clamxav.com

http://www.titanium.free.fr/downloadonyx.php (version 2.8.5 nd not the beta)

http://www.onyxmac.com/how-to-use-onyx-for-mac.html

AND the hard drive is near its capacity. Require 15-20% free space to work anywhere near efficiently.

From what I have found out it actually appears that I am only being allowed onto secure websites - https:// types. Has anyone experienced this before?

Mods I have tried to edit my post. "not at its capacity' should have been 'near its capacity' but an edit will not take? As chas suggests go into Private Browsing and make sure it is off if you are only allowed onto secure sites.

You can find that under the Safari heading in the Menu Bar.

If that doesn't solve the problem UNINSTALL (per the company's instructions) both Sophos and Avast. Both are completely wasting your time and money as well as your computer's resources. I would not be at all surprised if they weren't the culprit behind this problem.
