That's about it, really - first day of new TLD in the UK, aptly named .uk and my new domain is up and running. Only took Nominet UK fifteen years to realise it might be popular ... these guys are so shrewd!
Talking about shrewd - Nominet UK is going through private websites, to determine if a holder qualifies for an opt out (i.e. not to have one's home address published in WHOIS), so if like me, you think you're okay, since you've never bothered to setup a website in the first place, think again: registrars are running unused domains as free advertisements for themselves and using pay-per-click, and that means automatic opt in ...
Better get some generic / blank / under construction page uploaded right away, before your home address is displayed for all and sundry
