I have been trying to connect my Powerbook 5.8 G4 to a Logitech Wireless Speaker adapter. I am on OS X 10.4.11, using bluetooth version 1.9.5f4. I have been able to pair and configure but not connect. Any ideas?

Hi Mike.... - not sure that I can help much - you're using a nearly 10 year-old OS X and Bluetooth is now up to version 4.1 - please provide more information on the Logitech Speaker adapter (i.e. model #) - also is this a 'new' attempt to connect? Have you checked the compatibility of this adapter w/ the rather 'ancient' computer software & BT version you are using w/ Logitech's website? Dave :)

Im with Dave. I think your too old on your Mac OS and the Bluetooth Card in the Mac to be able to pick up the Speaker. Even though most speakers are backwards compatible, you have Bluetooth 2.0 in that particular PowerBook.
Do you have a Phone with Bluetooth ?? Can you connect to your Phone via Bluetooth ? Try connecting to something else, and see if that works, then we can rule out your Mac, and if not its probably the Speakers . .

Hi
Logitech Speaker Adapter is model S00113. This the first time I have attempted to connect.
I have contacted Logitech but their only response so far is that they believe the problem to be with the Powerbook not the adapter.
I have tried to pair my iPhone 5s with Adapter but that won't even find it.
I have a hard drive full of music I want to play over my hi-fi and I thought using the powerbook with speaker adapter into the amp would solve the problem, but maybe not eh?

Hi again Mike..... - assume that you have the Adapter shown below - I would try pairing the Logitech product w/ a number of recent BT devices (phones, iPod, iPads, etc. - whatever may be available) - if nothing seems to be 'discovered' & 'paired', then maybe the adapter is the problem and should be replaced, if still under warranty? Dave

If its not connecting to your iPhone 5s, I would take it back and ask for a replacement. Seems there is something wrong with the Adapter.
And DONT let Logitech tell you its Apple or the PowerBook or iPhone, because its obviously not, with both not connecting to it.
When you ask for a replacement, be sure to tell them, that both devices don't connect to it at all, and its not discovered on either device . . .

Yeah, that is so complicated. I also had this kind of problem before and I thought the problem was with my bluetooth but then it's the adapter. You should replace it asap :)

OK I will contact Logitech as you suggest.
Can anyone suggest the best way of playing the music files contained on an external Hard Drive through my hi=fi system?

Like everyone else I'm inclined to think that the problem is the device since it isn't working with more than one device.

If you don't mind not being wireless you could connect the computer to the stereo by wire and play the music that way. The cable needs to have a headphone jack on one end and RCA connections on the other end. Something like this.

These cables are available in several lengths and extension cables are also available. I wouldn't make too long a cable run though due to potential signal loss. I've made 10 -12 foot runs before and probably could have gone farther.

Unless you absolutely need wireless connectivity, this is the easiest solution. If you do need wireless connectivity, one solution would be to use an Airport Express as both your router and wireless "adapter" for the speakers which kills two birds with one stone. If you go this route however, you'll need to use your iPhone to configure it since your Mac is too old to do so.

This might work since I had the same problem in 10.6.8:

Open Bluetooth Preferences. Make sure On and Discoverable are checked.

In the box that lists the device(s) you have paired, select the Logitech.

At the bottom of the box, expand the drop down menu under the gear and select "Use as Stereo Device".

I have to do this every time to get my Oontz Angle speaker to connect and start working with Bluetooth. Same with my Tesslor tube radio.
