I have never had panther crash so I think that it has to do with the way that you installed it. Was it pre-installed on the system, upgrade, archive and install, or clean install

yeah, wow, panther is still going strong for me, way better than jaguar though nothing that much more special over jag.

reinstall, or restart in single user mode (command + s) and type fsck -y that will clear everything up, then type reboot when its done.

note: fsck -y may not always work it will tell you to type something else to force it.. but its gona be fsck -_ <--enter letter there.

Seeing as there are threads involved, did you put in any RAM lately? How old is this machine?

I will have to agree with this. the only crashes I have had in panther were from problems that I caused myself with my own code. The crash was contained and didnt affect any other programs on my machine. If the above doesnt work, I would have to suggest that you do what emrys suggested as it may be hardware that isnt quite compatible.

Eyenovation,

These guys can only give you as much help as you provide information.

If you read through there posts you will find some helpful advice from the little you told us. If you wish for more follow up please answer their questions.

How old your computer is, how did you install it, etc..

sKaD

p.s. I hope this didn't sound rude.

The only problems I've had with Panther, but really I've had them with jaguar as well, is that safari and itunes on random occasions will crash the entire system. Besides that, for the most part I probably have a crash a week or so, which isn't so bad, but irritating nonetheless.

I haven't had any problems at all with Panther. My uptime right now is 11 days. But if I turned the computer off it's because I was leaving town or something.

Panther scares me!
I'll stick with Jaguar 10.2.8 for a bit longer.
It's been faithful to me since I got it about a month ago lol!
