Connecting LPT printer to Mac-Mini

Mac Mini, OS 10.9.2, Intel i5, 8 gig DDR3
I'd like to use my still-working HP LaserJet 5 with my Mini. Problem is, LPT-only connection on the HP.
Haven't been impressed with chat about LPT-to-USB cabling, but could give it a try.
Question ... will OS 10.9.3 recognize the HP if I can cable it in?

Yes, it should work with the proper drivers. The HP LaserJet 5 series is supported by the HP Linux foundation and drivers are here. You'll have to scroll down toward the bottom to get to the LaserJet 5 series.
