The LG G3 has a 5.5" screen with a resolution of 2560×1440 @ a PPI of 534. Ars Technica reviewed it and said that it looks great, but that PPI is a major source of battery drain.
Yeah, I've got a Nexus 5 with a PPI of 445 and unless you've got a microscope, you won't see any pixels anywhere. Adding more beyond that is simply unnecessary. I think hovering around 400 is perfectly fine and anything beyond that truly is "I've got more than you so I must be better."

Chas, do remember they changed the DOCK completely in Yosemite. It MAY not be possible to make it look like your picture in Mavericks.

Not at first, but I promise you a third-party app will make dock alterations possible. The dock is (and likely always will be) pretty easy to mod if desired.

You mean that's not true? Marketing people wouldn't lie to me for years would they? I may have to adjust my priorities.

Of course marketing people would never lie. After all, Apple's products really are revolutionary and awe-inspiring and Microsoft's empower us all...

As mentioned earlier, cDock already can modify the Dock in Yosemite.
