Good spreadsheet program

I am using MacBook Pro and would like a good spreasheet program. Can you recommend one please??? Thanks

The obvious "good" spreadsheet program for Mac's is Microsoft Excel. Excel has been used with Mac's since the mid-1980's.

Office, Numbers or LibreOffice will do the job depending on your price range and needed functionality.

If your MacBook Pro is new you can download the iWork apps from the Mac App Store for free. "Numbers" is part of that suite of apps.

Yes, the free download only applies to new purchases. However, as Van pointed out you can download the free LibreOffice suite. Download from here. Make sure you download the Mac version.

Why LibreOffice rather than Open Office?

Just wondering as I use OO as it has a nice LaTex app for putting symbolic math in documents.

In short OO was sold to Oracle and the developers left and started Libre. Here is the full story. Personally I prefer Excel:-

What I was curious about was why the default response seemed to be LibreOffice rather than an either/or choice between the two.

You can choose either one. LibreOffice has been recommended because of all the turmoil that went on with the development of Open Office. Since it's now being developed by Apache, perhaps things will return to normal.
