I am considering buying a HP LaserJet Pro 400 color Printer M451dw for use with my Mac laptops and Apple Extreme network. does anyone have any knowledge of the printer's quality and compatibility with Macs?

You need to look the printer up on the HP site in their support section. That will tell you whether or not drivers are available for your Mac and version of OS X. HP generally is good about supporting OS X, however, it pays to check first. You might also take a look at the cost of the replaceable color toner cartridges which in case you didn't know, are expensive.
