I have a 2011 macbook pro retina. I'd like to be able to connect my apple TV to my macbook. I've seen some thunderbolt to HDMI adapters available, but some get bad reviews. Is it possible to connect an apple TV to my Macbook with a thunderbolt to HDMI adapter?

No - that won't work. Th TB port is not a "video" input port. And why? Should be able to do everything on your Mac the ATV can do.

You can hook your TV up via Airplay using a great little App called AirParrot and it will be a lot cheaper than connectors and cables. If you have a good WiFi network, I believe this s your best option.

I have used it on my older MBP's before I upgraded to one that allowed AirPlay.

If you have a TV with HDMI handy you don't need to connect to the Mac. You can make all changes using the Apple TV and the included remote. You could, of course, also pair a Bluetooth keyboard to the Apple TV and use it to make the changes.

This video should get you started. During the setup process you'll need to have the following information about your network.

1. Network name, type of security and password if wireless
2. Type of IP address (DHCP or Static)
3. Range of IP addresses.

Yes, but I need to see the ATV settings -- I got a new router, and need to make changes.

Still no need to connect it to your Mac - just go into the Settings on the ATV while connected to your TV and change the network.
