When Office and PDF files are saved to my desktop, the file icons appear non-descript and lacking the colourful design normally associated with the application software.

The same files when saved into a folder take-on the desired icon design. Something appears to be disconnected - does anyone have a solution?

Many thanks

Finder > Show View Options

uncheck Show Icon Preview

counter-intuitive, but I believe that should fix the problem

Look at Show View Options settings in the folder. Make the settings for Finder the same until you find the magic setting. Then you can revert to other settings for the ones that didn't affect the color if you wish.

Glad you got it sorted. If you see this post, would you mind indicating what you believe did the trick?
