Slow running mac

Our Mac Book Pro is running real slow. Any Suggestions on what to do.

What mac do you have? What RAM is installed? Also what size is the hard drive and how much free space do you have left on it? Sorry for all the questions but these will help us to help you

The machine is a Mac Book Pro
running OS 10.9.3
Processor 2.26 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory 2GB 1067 MHZ DDR3

I do not know how to determine the size of the hard drive or the remaining space

Well for starters insufficent memory. It is a late 2009/early 2010 model than can handle 8GB of memory. OWC and rucial recommended. Then go to the little Apple top right corner, select About this Mac > More Info > system Report > SATA and that will tell you the size of the drive and free space available.
