Some folks may remember the old Apple routers shaped like "flying saucers". I was doing some eBay "shopping"...and came across an auction where the seller was selling 37 of these. I thought that the auction photo was funny/interesting:;)

And in case you were concerned that they didn't come with the plugs/power adapters:;)

I guess I could practice my hockey shots . . . if I still played hockey . . . or lived where large bodies of water froze over . . . ;P

Seller is asking $499 for all of them (about $13.49 each). Better make sure all those shots are goals. Gonna be pretty expensive misses!;)

Gonna be expensive goals too!;)...but goals are priceless!:)

Nick - reminds me of 'eyeballs' - :)

Just curious about the Wi-Fi protocol, i.e. above 802.11b or not? Dave

I believe because these are white...they are wireless g (Airport Extreme). There was an earlier "flying saucer" model that was gray/silver...and was wireless b (Airport).

I have 2 of them. Both are Wireless G and decent for a G router. I paid $10 for one and $5 for the other at a local thrift store. Reason for $5 10 years ago was the thrift store thought it was a toy Spaceship! I bought it and paid then told them what it was as I was leaving! :D Grin

I used the one for many years and found another that was brand new for $10 and got it for the fun of it.

Your flying Saucer comment caught my eye Nick! :D

So to Rad Dave, 802.11-G.

Not sure about which one they are selling but one had a DSL modem built in also and mine do not.

I have something like 2-3 of these as well. I used to buy them cheap...why you may ask.;) These "Flying Saucer" Apple routers use/used exactly the same Airport Extreme "g" WiFi cards as some Powerbook G4's, iMac G4's, some Powermac G4's, early iMac G5's (I think), and some Powermac G5's.

Like this:

So I would buy these Airport Extreme routers cheap ($5-$10)...remove the Airport Extreme card...and install it into one of the computer models I mentioned above that I own. BAMM...instant and inexpensive "g" WiFi.

This is while at the same time the Airport Extreme card (by itself) was selling for $25-$30 on eBay.:)

I need 38. That's not enough for my major networking requirements. ;)

I think I have one of the gray ones. Bought it shortly after it came out. The phone line for 56K modem access was in one room and my Mac was being used in another room. I used the Airport to give me wireless access where I needed it. Still have it in the wire box IIRC.

Nick, Yes, I was going to post that about the AE card inside but in my haste to hit Submit forgot! Leave it to Apple! :D

I have that in my G5, and the antenna is the rare part. Thankfully I have one.

Yes...those antenna's are rare. I have one on my G5 as well. Thankfully those antenna's aren't needed much!:)

Just took a quick look on eBay to see how much they are selling for. Tell me this seller isn't doing a bit of "price-gouging"::(

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-603-342...osters_Extenders_Antennas&hash=item3cda612e40

...$180 bucks!!!:(

Here's a place selling it for a MUCH more reasonable $29:

Maybe you know the story. I think that when the first Powermac G5's were released...they had WiFi issues (internal antenna was poorly located). Then Apple redesigned...and the external antenna was used. Then Apple redesigned a 2nd time (eliminating the external antenna)...everything was back inside...and good to go.:)

I had one of those 2.3ghz PM G5's as well. I think that I sold it to get my first Mac Pro (1st. gen.).:)
