If I use BT wifi hotspots around the country to browse, does it come off my monthly download allowance with BT or is it free?

Are you logging into these hotspots with some credentials or are they open? If the former, it could be part of your allowance. If the latter, then it's free. You should contact BT to confirm..

Cheers for that, I think it's the latter but then maybe my computer enters the "credentials" automatically. I'll contact BT.

If BT is like their Australian counterpart, nothing is for free!

The carriers here in the US operate the same way. If you're on a limited monthly data allowance and use one of their hot spots, it counts against your allowance. No free lunch in the US, UK, or Australia! :p
