It truly sounds like the drive died. What model Macbook Pro is it? What are the basic specs?

Your hard drive needs to be replaced. Buy a replacement and follow the directions for changing it at iFixit: The free repair manual - iFixit. If your MacBook Pro is still under warranty (Apple care) take it to Apple and let them do it. Hopefully, you had a backup of your data?
