Problems with DVD player

I have been having a problem with playing any form of video, be it youtube or DVD's, as of this morning. When I insert the DVD into the computer it will open the player, look like it's going to play, and then suddenly quit out again and give me the error message that automatically sends to apple...saying "DVD plug-in failure." I have zero idea what this means and zero clue on how to fix it, though would LOVE to do so ASAP!!!!

What Mac are you busing and what operating system? This is vital information. Do you have Flash installed and in System preferences click on the Flash icon, bottom row, and check the version. Currently it is 13.0.0.214. Then if all is well have a read of this thread on plugins:-

Thank you for your response...turning the computer off and on again fixed the problem
