I want to unlink Adobe Reader from my Safari but am having difficulty. How do I accomplish this? I went through all relevant preferences with no success. My early 2008 iMac is using OSX 10.9.2

Shutdown Safari and open your Finder. Then navigate your way to:
/Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
Remove the "AdobePDFViewer.plugin"
and "AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin"
Restart Safari. Also make sure that "Preview" is your default PDF viewer.
