Start up Disk Full

Hello Everyone,
I am running Mavricks10.9.2 on a Mackbook Pro Retina that I bought in September. I keep getting this Pop up saying my start up disk is full. I am mainly using the computer for working, email excel and surfing the web... nothing that my Ipad does not handle. Any clue how to sort this out?

Is your hard drive full or not? You need to check & tell us.

My 2007 Mac never had this issue

Use Disk Inventory X to figure out what is taking up all that space.

With 250GB of total storage, you need to be mindful of what you load up on your MBP. Use an external drive for stuff..

If the image you posted above is from the computer in question...the SSD is over 98% full. You need to off-load or delete some stuff.

The amount of "stuff" stored on a 2007 Mac has absolutely nothing to do with how full the SSD is on the computer in question. It simply means that you didn't fill up your 2007's hard drive...and you did almost fill up your current Mac's SSD (98+% full).

Do you have EXACTLY the same amount of files on both the Macs? Your 2007 iMac came with a regular HD and was likely 1TB in size, that's 4 times what you have in your Macbook Pro..

I was thinking the same thing. 2007 computer had a larger HD than current Mac's SSD.

My 2007 Macbook came with a 160GB Serial ATA; 5400 rpm...

As is obvious in the graph you kindly provided, your media files (music/movies/photos) are taking up MORE than half of the entire capacity of your drive.

Move at least your iTunes library to an external drive, and voila the problem is solved.
