Macbook Pro auto brightness issues

So whenever I run my macbook pro to my television via the thunderbolt port, I cant keep it from auto adjusting the brightness and it is constantly dimming and brightening. I have gone into system preferences and unchecked 'automatically adjust brightness' and it didn't help at all. I am currently running 10.7.5 if it makes a difference. Any suggestions would be helpful

You could try a SMC reset to see if that works. And why haven't you updated to Mavericks? It's free.
