vertical band (from top to bottom of display) of horizontal lines about 1 inch wide

I have a 2008 MacBook Prop. I have developed a display issue. There is a vertical band of of horizontal lines, each line about 1 to 1.5 inches wide and the lines are of identical width. Any idea of cause and how to repair?

99% this is a video hardware issue. The only real way to remedy this is to replace the logic board. On a 2008 computer...this is not a financially reasonable thing to do.
