my screen is blank. i cant even tell what version i have. it's an imac thats about 6 years old. help!!!!

Attach an external monitor or TV to it and see if it displays video. If it does, you can find out which iMac you have. You'll need the correct adapter and cable in order to attach an external display.

i dont have the equipment or know how. i know i have osx. is there any way to solve this? thx

chscag gave you a way to test if the internal monitor is the problem.
No one can fix anything without first narrowing down the problem.
You can try resetting parameter ram, by holding down command-option-p-r immediately after the startup sound, and hold it until the sound repeats.
