All of a sudden out of the blue when I log in it gives me two options to sign in: Click either myself or Guest User, then sign in. Problem is, I never gave "permission" (you know, sign in with my password to enable Guest User, then click the lock icon to supposedly prevent any changes). Yes, I easily fixed it so the Guest User nonsense is gone when I get to the login screen, but why would an action that is password-protected (allow or disallow GU) change permissions by itself? Does not give me the warm and fuzzies using a Mac.

Just lock the padlock using your password under users in System Preferences whilst you are inner your Admin account of course.

It was locked when my iMac mysteriously decided to unlock and allow the guest user. I do not expect something sloppy like this to happen with an Apple product.

Have you recently turned on "Find My Mac" from iCloud preferences? If you have, the Guest Account will be turned on automatically. This is to allow the thief access to the internet so your Mac can be found in case it's stolen.
