can't open pictures sent to me

Safari can’t open the file “CAM00835-2.jpg” because no available application can open it.

Can someone explain this to me. It is a few pictures sent to me. This started recently. OSX 10.9.2

Well, the first thing to check if it is, in fact, an image, and not just some nasty stuff masquerading as one - secondary click and select Get Info. You should see something like this:



Make sure it is an image file (see the top red arrow), then, if it is, go to Open With section and select Preview or whatever you use to view images, and, if you want this app to always open this type of images, click on Change All. That should do it.

Ask the sender what camera brand and software the pics are in.
