word for mac 2011 help please

I need some advice re the reference manager in word 2011 for mac. I can't figure out how to change the style of my bibliography. It keeps appearing highlighted with a grey background that won't go away even when converted to static text. I've tried changing the style using the too boos, but to no avail.
