Just like the video shows (available everywhere, just Google "cracking the Mac mini), a large flexible putty knife was all it took. That, and there may be an antenna blocking the RAM stick. I loosened screw securing the black plastic strip to the CD/DVD drive, and that allowed pulling the antenna up and away. After that it was cake. And for those considering throwing a 1GB stick in the mini, at the moment (02/22/2006), Circuit City is selling Kingston KGT KVR3331GR for $84.99 after rebate. Purchase price was $109.99, and $25 comes by mail. After doing a bit of online browsing, that's probably pretty tough to beat for new RAM. "About this Mac" reports 1GB DDR SDRAM, and all seems well.
Large Putty Knife: About $5 at Lowe's.
RAM: $84.99
Satisfaction of having succeeded popping it open and doing it: Priceless.
Sorry, I couldn't resist.
